Week Seven

Suggestions for Week Seven:

This is a big week for reading through your sources and really starting to nail down your argument. As you read your sources, be sure to take meticulous notes and to think about where they would fit into your overall argument.

Also, if you are considering conducting an interview or survey, this is the week to draft your questions, contact your subjects, and start the process so you can gather your results by next week.

Considering sign up for an optional conference with me through our sign up link to talk through your ideas about your research paper and the way that your argument is evolving.
REMEMBER: you are required to sign up for and attend one appointment with a Hume writing consultant before the end of the quarter (see official assignment sheet).  If you  have already seen an Hume tutor (even if it was for a different class), write me and let me know so that you get credit!

M 11-7: Introducing & organizing your argument; returning to research

  • Find and read your own research sources – continue researching!
  • Write: Over the weekend, you should be continuing to research your narrowed topic.  By reading more sources, you’ll find additional ways to narrow your project and can start thinking about how to make an informed claim about your sources.  In an approximately 200 word comment to the blogpost you wrote last week in class (where we did invention exercises), write about
    1. what sort of research you did over the weekend.  Did you go to the library? Use databases? Read one or more sources? Take notes?
    2. what are your sources telling you about your topic?  What sort of claim do you think you’ll want to make? What do you think you might contribute to the conversation?
